At Shane Language School UK, Hastings, we like to make the most out of everyday and all the facilities the school and the surrounding areas have to offer. Just last week we had a great time socialising after school by having a picnic in the school’s garden. It was a fantastic opportunity for the new students to get to know each other and to meet all members of staff.
I have written a few words about the afternoon.
What better way to start the weekend than with a picnic on the lawn with good friends and good food?
Friday was a very warm day, and we knew that the weekend was going to be hotter, so we decided to celebrate in style. At Shane English School UK, Hastings, we have a beautiful back garden. The weeping willow tree provided enough shade for those who didn’t want to sit directly in the sun. Some students and teachers sat on the grassed area; they wanted to get a tan. There is a BBQ and patio area which we didn’t use as no one wanted the job of cooking.
We had lots of different foods, it was all very English. Sandwiches and rolls with cheese and cucumber, egg mayonnaise, tuna and sweetcorn, as well as cheese and pickle. Let me explain pickle: it’s not like pickled cucumber or other vegetables. The sauce is dark brown, and there are chunky bits of onion, garlic, carrots, dates and cauliflower, its sweet , savoury, sharp, smooth, and crunchy all at the same time. Ok, so it does sound pretty strange, and I guess it is an acquired taste, but a cheese sandwich is just not a sandwich without it.
As its summer what could be more British than strawberries and cream? We have been growing strawberry plants in the garden that are giving us fresh ripe beautifully sweet fruit. Taking a bowl each we went round the garden picking the red berries, some of us found it hard to resist eating them there and then. You would have thought that after all the food we wouldn’t have any room left, but in true Shane English School tradition, there is always room for ice cream.
It was a perfect afternoon, eating ice cream, lying in the garden, listening to music just generally chilling with great friends after a long hard week of studying.
