Every Friday the whole school gets together to say goodbye to students that are leaving.
Last week 3 of our students left, I have written a few words to tell you about the graduation ceremony.
Farwell to Stephen, Tiziana and Stefano
Fridays can be really sad days for us at Shane English School, Hastings, as we have to say goodbye to some of our students.
This was a second visit to the school by Tiziana. She came to study at the school for three months earlier on in the year. She has such a great time that she came back. When she arrived it was like welcoming an old friend home. To be honest it was like she had never been away.
This time Tiziana was only here for a week and boy did the week go quickly, It seemed no sooner had she arrived it was Friday, time to say ‘goodbye’ again.
Stephen started at the school 12 weeks ago. When he arrived it was very difficult to get him to say anything at all. And now? Well, it’ a different story, it’s really quite the opposite. He has been known to tell some really very bad jokes.
It has been amazing watching his confidence, language, and social skills grow on a daily basis. As new students arrived on Monday mornings, Stephen would be there to greet them, introducing himself and taking them on a guided tour of the school. Making sure they had everything they needed. I heard he even made his whole class cups of tea one morning.
Stefano was only here for a week, but he started to make friends right away. He has said that he wants to come back again but for a longer period of time. Then he would really be able to get to understand more of the language.
As the weather has been amazing, so far, this summer, we held the leaving ceremony in the garden. Students and staff gathered under the willow tree and on the lawn to say goodbye to friends old and new. Speeches were made by teachers about the students leaving, students made speeches about their time here.
At the end of the ceremony the students took photos, swapped email addresses, there were also lots of hugs and of course tears.
All of us at Shane English School UK, Hastings, wish you all well in your future and hope you all come back ‘home’ to visit us soon.
