Studying English in the UK isn’t only about lessons and homework. Its also about making great life long friendships and creating some amazing and magical memories that you will look back on for years to come. Every week we have a ceremony for our graduates, we always try and do something with the whole school which includes teachers, students and other staff. Last Friday we all went out to a cafe, I have written a few words about it.
Fridays come around far too quickly and it means we have to say ‘goodbye’ to a student. Yoshika from Japan has been with us for two months and quickly became part of the Shane ‘family’. In Japan Yoshika is an actor and boy does she like performing. In class whenever there was an opportunity for a role play she was the first to volunteer. She would get into character and when able to would get in to costume as well! When she would speak to member of staff or other students and couldn’t find the correct word she would do a spontaneous mime which would turn in to much laughter when the whole school would be shouting out what they thought she was saying, often getting it wrong.
How did we say ‘goodbye’? Well, the whole school, students, teachers and staff all went out for coffee and cake to Mr Beans. Mr Beans is a rather nice independent coffee shop in Hastings town centre. Up stairs there is a room which is set out a bit like a library, with books and comfy sofas. That’s where we went. We piled up the stairs hoping to get the sofas, luckily for us the room was empty so we had it to ourselves. We all flopped down on the sofas as the morning had been hard work!!!!
Lattes, tea, a cappuccino or two and some hot chocolates were ordered, along with very tasty treats. We all chatted, it was a fantastic opportunity to speak to all the students and get to know them a bit more. We played a game of truth or lie, where each person had to say 2 true things about themselves and 1 lie. It really was funny, some of the things that we all came up with were very strange but true. One of the teachers hobby is pot holing at the weekend. If you are not sure what that is, it’s where you go down in to deep caves where very few people have been. They are a real adventurer or our own Indiana Jones!
After a great deal of laughing we had to say our fond farewells to Yoshika, there were a few tears lots of photos and most importantly loads of amazing memories and life long friendships.
So if you like the idea of making life long friends from around the world then joing the Shane ‘family’ is the perfect place for you.. Learn more about the school by checking out the rest of our website www.shaneuk.com or our facebook page
