When students have been at Shane English School UK, Hastings for a while they become more than students they become family. We like to do different things as a family would, this includes celebrating achievements and also wishing our family ‘bon voyage’.
Time to say goodbye to two students, Elif and Gianvito. Elif is from Turkey and had been at the school for eight weeks. She was very nervous on her first day and thought that two months seemed like a life time.
Elif settled into school life very quickly. After a few days of her being at school, it felt like we had known her forever. Seeing her beaming smile and the way she bounced into school every morning was something we certainly looked forward to. Her enthusiasm for learning, seeing, and tasting new things was very infectious.
At the weekends and after school, Elif would be at the centre of all the arrangements. Making sure the other students knew where they were going, inviting all the students to join in.
Gianvito was here for 10 weeks as a student in the morning and an intern in the afternoon. He loved going to classes and made great progress really quickly.
As an intern, Gianvito was a great deal of help to all of us at school, especially during the very busy summer period. He happily sorted out the classrooms so they were all in the correct state for the mornings, he made welcome packs for new students and would also give new students a guided tour of the school and answer any questions they may have.
We found that he has a love of cooking and BBQ’s and he and Ferdinand arranged a BBQ for all the students after lessons one afternoon.
On Elif’s and Gianvito’s last day, we went out for a meal together as a school. We chose a local Italian restaurant and that was one of Elif’s favourites, although it was a busman’s holiday for Gianvito.
The food was delicious and the conversation flowed there were so many topics discussed from art to the weather. It was a lovely way to spend a Friday afternoon. There were many big hugs after the meal. It seems so sad yet so natural when students leave the school. We know it’s not ‘goodbye’ it’s ‘see you later’!
While it’s always sad to say goodbye to students and friends we know that they will take many happy memories of Shane English School UK, Hastings and the great forever friends they have met.
